"Celebration of Spring" for the Spindler's April challenge. I have more of this fiber to spin up, but I had to get a finished skein photographed to complete this month's challenge. It is 82.5 yards of light fingering weight yarn (almost laceweight) made with the daffodil dyed merino with white angora mixed in.

I also finished the blue merino that was given to me back in the fall: It is 322 yards of fingering weight yarn; now I've got to figure out what to make with it.

In canoeing news, last Saturday was another race. This was a preparation race, running the 8 miles of the last leg of the big, 3 day race that will be held at the end of July. It was a windy day, which was greatly appreciated only when blowing them on to greater speeds. When the river went around a bend and the wind blew from the side or worse into their faces, the kids really had to work hard.
After seeing them all off at the starting point, Elias and I stole a few minutes for a "date." We swung by to pick up a soda and some fries; but ended up with 2 whoppers as well. When we realized that we'd been given the wrong order, we were already on the bridge and could see something coming around the farthest bend...no time to go back! Thinking we at least had time to enjoy the meal because it was probably one of the cruisers, we sat on down to eat (the cruisers almost always come in first because they're a much faster, lighter type of canoe.) Right as I was popping my last bite into my mouth, that first boat came into view. It wasn't a cruiser! In fact, we could see that the paddlers where both wearing lime green shirts, our canoe team's color! We nearly had to run to get to the boat ramp just as they were pulling up: Matthais and his partner had taken first place in their division and nearly for the whole race (Because they're faster and in a different division, the cruisers are started 10 min. after the aluminum canoes.) The guys were on cloud nine for having beat them to the finish. Their time was 1 hour, 5 minutes, only 2 minutes slower than the fastest cruiser! They weren't even breathing hard; I think these guys are ready for a bigger race.
The girls did quite well also, working hard against the difficult wind. Katla and her partner, Sarah narrowly escaped being swamped when another canoe team tipped over right next to them at the start of the race! They took 2nd place in the girl's division.
Asilinne was the "odd man out" for this race but, as is common, one of the other canoe teams also had an odd number of paddlers. She was teamed up with him and they paddled well together despite not having done any practice as a team; they picking up 2nd place in the coed division.
That's all the news from here for now,
-Jayne
